Hey everyone,
I am currently in Madeira on a trip after my exam period. It’s been a while since I have written anything in this email newsletter, but this is intended to help me have a moment to pause and reflect. I have come to the end of my second year at university, which is crazy, and simultaneously, I reached 10,000 subscribers on YouTube, I just want to say thank you.
The biggest thing I have realized this year is the importance of focus. Finding out three or fewer goals that you remind yourself of every morning when you wake up is crucial. For me, those goals were to get a first in my degree, reach 10,000 subscribers, and master my body. Every day, I would just focus all my energy on the actions that could help me achieve these goals. Now more than ever, it’s so important to have that focus. I see it like this diagram below.
I got this from Sam Ovens’ YouTube channel, and I recommend watching it. If you can singularly focus on one thing—one thing that is vitally important and meaningful to you—you can go much further than anyone else around you because you know your direction and don’t have distractions. That’s why I hate social media; it makes my mind scattered and stops me from moving forward to the things that matter most to me. I know it’s impossible to do nothing but work on your goals—that would be selfish—but always ask yourself, “Is this essential? Is this my responsibility?” I often find myself making other people’s problems my own, but when I focus on what is in my control, my goals, and my direction, life becomes simpler and easier to move forward.
After exams are finished, I always feel a bit lost. The way I deal with it is to set a new studying goal because I love it. One thing I learned is that it isn’t about the exam; it’s about the work required to achieve it and the skills you gain along the way. After an exam period, I have built the ability to sit down and focus my mind, which, in my opinion, is the most valuable skill you can have. Now you can pivot and study something else—anything—but pick one or two things; otherwise, it will become like the picture above.
